Celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival this April

Posted On: 03/29/2018

The Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in beautiful New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018. This beloved annual event commemorates when New Haven Historic Commission and New Haven Parks Department planted 73 Japanese Yoshino cherry trees in 1973.

Welcome spring to New England with this festival full of food, live music, children’s arts and crafts, games, and more. The 20th Annual Pre-Festival Concert takes place on Saturday April 21st, at St. Michael’s Church at 7:30 pm sharp. Join the festival kickoff for a night of dancing and singing before the Cherry Blossom Festival activities commence.

The Sunday festivities include free on-stage entertainment including the Neighborhood Music School Premier Jazz Ensemble, Tuxedo Junction (The Sounds of Swing), St. Luke’s Steel Band, and Carlos Santiago Y Su Momento Musical (Salsa). There is an awards ceremony for the Friend of Wooster Square Award, a dedicated family and children’s area, and a pet-friendly area. More than a dozen local food vendors will bring their tastiest fare, and more than 30 artists and authors are expected to showcase their work.
